Dear Covered Girls,

It's quite obvious that I am a Muslim. I just want to discuss the subject of modesty. I want to talk about why I cover. So that maybe all the different types of women reading my blog, or following me on social media can understand the meaning of hijab. The word itself in Arabic means barrier or partition. In Islam however it has a broader meaning. It's the principle of modesty, and includes behaviour as well as dress for both males and females. Hijab in Islam is the most visible form. I am a second generation Muslim. I was born into Islam. Covering my hair started at a young age. My parents prepared me to shield my beauty from the world with hijab as a form of protection, self pride, and modesty. As a young teenager, and adult I strayed away from my hijab, but my journey to self resulted in rejuvenating my love for hijab, and encouraging modesty in all females. You don't have to wear hijab to be modest, but for me, it's definitely a plus!!! Besides, how else would I put my large collection of scarves to good use! I express myself through fashion of all kinds, and hijab is one of them! This blog is not just for women of the Islamic faith, but any woman who decides to guard herself with modesty! Hijab is my guard of choice!

As always,

Be Inspired, Be Beautiful, Be Covered!

Dear Covered Girls!

Did you know that many people mistake women with head coverings for being Muslim? Muslim women aren’t the only ones that cover their hair with a veil or scarf. Orthodox Jewish women cover similar to muslim women. I’ve often mistaken a Sikh woman for a Muslim woman , and had to apologize for my ignorance. There are other faiths who wear head coverings.
I was just online and came across a quiz called “ Can you tell her religion by her head covering”? I failed brutally, and am ashamed about my ignorance on telling people’s religion apart by the headcovering. lol
I decided long ago when I was one of two Muslim children in my elementary school.( My sister was the second. lol) That I would try my hardest not to judge a book by its cover. When I took this test and failed, I knew I had to investigate further. I’ve made the mistake of assuming a Sikh woman for a Muslim many times, and as a child or young adult, I didn’t know any better until my parents told me.
So when I took this quiz, and I ended up getting 8 out of 14 questions right. I  asked myself whether i’ve taken the time educate myself on other faiths, just as i’ve encouraged my friends of the Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh faiths to do. I am currently reading about every faith where women wear head coverings. I believe we all owe it to ourselves to be aware of the diverse melting pot we call home. We are all different colors, shapes, sizes, AND faiths!

See my results to the test! lol OUCH… lol

Quiz: Can you tell her religion from her head covering?

Your Score: 8 / 14

Your Ranking: 50/50 - Pull your yashmak down, it's clearly covering your eyes. You got hardly any right, I'm starting to wonder if you can even spell H-I-J-A-B.

The purpose of this quiz was to emphasise that Muslim women who choose to wear a hair covering are not oppressed, they are following in the footsteps of women from every major religion.
If you’re also interested in taking the quiz to see if you can differentiate her religion by her head covering go to the link below! I hope it intrigues you as much as it did me! Enjoy!

Dear Covered Girls!

Reaching out to women who love fashion, but do it modestly! It's a constant struggle in certain areas of the world to cover, and do it modestly. The general population of stores carry revealing, and tight clothing, and it takes time to patch together an outfit out of a regular store! I'm working on a new project to bring something easy to my part of the country, and share it with the generation of new girls who want to get dressed, and walk out the door to their runway of self confidence! All because of the clothes they've put on their backs, or the scarf they've thrown over there hair, or around their necks! I'll be updating my journey in the local stores picking out everyday outfits! Sharing my ideas on how to put yourself together for any day, in any season!!
